As one of four schools in North Rhine-Westphalia with the LabelFrancÉducation award, we received an invitation some time ago to come to Düsseldorf for a taster day (24 April 2023). The aim was to teach the German pupils the theoretical, practical and intercultural aspects of the sport, always against the background that rugby is not only an extremely fair sport but is also very popular in our neighbouring country as one of their main sports. The Institut Français - in cooperation with LabelFrancÉducation - had chosen the club ground of the Düsseldorf Dragons rugby club for the day. Unfortunately, the weather did not play along at the beginning of the day: it rained incessantly. Not least because of this, Mr. Ratajski's group of 8a, which was accompanied by Ms. Vo and Mr. Kanwischer on this day, was glad to be able to
hold the theoretical workshops indoors first - after all, it was warm and dry there. After the entertaining workshops, in which one of our students even managed to get a material prize, a short lunch followed before the main part was on the agenda: the practical games. It didn't take long before four groups were playing in four different
parts of the field. While one group practised proper tackling, the next tried its hand at a game simulation. The other two groups practised kicking or drop-kicking and various passing techniques. This very physical and visibly strenuous part was rounded off by a digital talk with the director Claudio Lopez-Lucia, whose documentary "Les Roses et les bleus" the pupils had studied in advance. On this day, class 8a was not only able to gain valuable insights into a sport that is extremely popular in France - they were also able to have an intensive exchange with the students from the other three schools (Pascal-Gymnasium Münster, Gymnasium Kreuzgasse Köln, Lycée français de Düsseldorf) and thus spend a great day together. Our thanks therefore go to the Institut Français, LabelFrancÉducation as well as all the representatives from politics and the members of the Düsseldorf Dragons.
